I've been working out from home off and on for over 15 years. I started off doing crazy workouts like P90 X and listening to Tony shout over the TV #IYKYK. Those were extremely intense, especially for my adolescent body and I was never able to complete the 3-month programs. TBH it's probably because I didn't like to be yelled at to push myself harder but I still have my calendar printout taped to the wall in my childhood bedroom just to remind me of my failures #jk.

As fitness YouTube became bigger, I started following several different trainers hoping to find something that would work. One of my favorite YouTubers is Cassie Ho, who created Blogilates. I love her programs and her clothing line.! In some of her programs, she incorporates adding a small dumbbell, which led me to focus more specifically on weight training. For the last year, I have been following Julie Ledbetter (click here to see my post about her) and her at-home dumbbell routines. I love it and truly believe all women should be incorporating weight training into their routines, even if it is only small weights. Not only can you see the progress but as you age your body loses its strength little by little and we need to keep our strength up if we have to fight off any assailants. ( see my post about safety must-haves).

Working out from home is easy, convenient, and if you have the right tools extremely effective. Here are my top must-haves.

  1. Dumbbells. Of course, you are going to need to start off by getting some dumbbells. These are perfect if you are just starting out. You want to start light and work yourself up to higher weights as you get stronger.

2. Booty Band. When working out from home you need to work that booty. I like these bands because they are anti-slip and won't pinch your legs. They also come in a case which makes them perfect to take with you traveling.

3. Resistance Bands. When working out from home you need to compensate for the equipment that you would use at a gym. incorporating resistance bands is a great way to target specific muscles. These also come in a carry case that makes it great to travel with.

4. Workout Bench. If you are serious about starting a home gym a workout bench is a must! For one thing, it means you are able to sit down more for your workouts, which is a definite bonus in my book! This one is made of high-quality material and is adjustable to over 7 different positions.

5. Wrist Weights. I love using wrist weights when I'm just doing stuff around the house. Also putting them on my ankles when I'm doing certain floor exercises helps add to the intensity of my workout. I like these because they are adjustable, comfy and don't slip.

6. Water Bottle. I LOVE this bottle. It's massive holding 64oz and it keeps your drink ice cold all day. Saving you from having to refill over and over. It comes in sooo many colors and I love that it comes with three different lids.

Do you have any of these? Who's your go-to fitness podcast? What say you?
